Taking information from the NHS website, it is recommended that the amount of sleep a child needs is dependent on age. Below is a list of children’s ages during their primary school years, along with the number of hours sleep they require:
Years – 11hr30
Years – 11hr
Years – 10hr45
Years – 10hr30
Years – 10hr15
Years – 10hr
Years – 9hr45
Years – 9hr30
To work out what time your children should be going to bed, it is a good idea to count backwards from the time they will be woken up in the mornings. For a 5-year-old waking up at 7:30am, for example, their suggested healthy bedtime would be 8:30pm at the latest.
